How to’s

This is a tutorial that you can buy but the picture might give you an idea of how to make lampwork beads a-la pandora style 🙂

One of my favorites! I am going to try to make some of these in dog and cat form 🙂

Some YouTube movies

In this one the camera moves a lot but it’ll give you an idea

I really like this one and the clear instructions. Also the idea to use a toothpick first, then a skewer and then the core, because it will distort your bead less… Oh and she uses cane slices 🙂

Italian video but she uses a flathead screwdriver to get the rest of the clay out of the hole AND I saw she is also using the grommets that one would use for fabric (with one of those special pliers that crimps them together)

Not a tutorial but it shows a lot of different style pandora beads

Clean Worktable

August 5, 2012

Well I got a clean work table finally (this is the before picture) and I have a swap due soon so I need to get cracken. I feel strange it has been a while since I was able to touch clay. At least I have something on my to do list with the texture swap at City O Clay, and scrap clay warming in my seat so I think life is good.

My favorite vacation picture is this one.

It is my first view from the land and I cried a lot. What a wonderful gift to be able to see this on a cloudy day.  I am sure the work table will look like a tornado but looking out the window will be amazing.

I am going to play with clay! What are you doing creatively?

Matchbox Swap Pics and Giveaway!

April 4, 2012

Finally I am able to show you the pictures of the match box swap shrine that just finished up. I must admit they dropped out like flies this time! I do not know exactly what it was about the match box swap that got to us but it was a hard one this time!  Enjoy the pics!

And I do not know what in the heck I did with my photo but I can not move it around so crick your neck and see what one of the lucky winners gets in the giveaway!

And now you have the match box swap giveaway!

And the winner is Erl Hill. I hope that you enjoy it and it can help you some time with your art. Sometimes it is a hard struggle to create what we think is art I know I do. I have a bowl of rocks that I have written simple inspirational things on. When I struggle with a design I reach into the bowl and it helps me with direction. This was a play on that bowl that helps me. On the outside I chose a combination lock because it is not one thing (like a key) that is needed but many techniques to finish a project. With each completed project we add to our library of knowledge.

Erl I hope you enjoy this match box swap and be on the look out as soon we will have the Carol Simmons swap pictures and give away. (NOTE it is my piece being given away not Carol’s).

Mini Food Swap Pics

January 9, 2012

My husband has been out-of-town for the last two and a half months, he comes home Thursday. With that in mind I spent today watching Wild Card Weekend and getting all the clay related items all over the house back in the studio.

It is always nice when you can actually see the table surface not sure how long this will last but it is nice for now.

One of the first projects I will be working on while back in the studio is this………….

http://www.dancormier.ca/DanCormier/ReliefBeyondBelief.html

The artist in me says Wonderful! I have the opportunity to learn a technique with new tools that are provided to master that technique.

The crazy clay lady in me says Heck Yea mama got some new toys I am going to play!

Finally the mini food swap pics are up. As always I was so amazed at how wonderful the entries were. Great job guys!

The Year in Review

January 1, 2012

This last year was one full of growth for me both personally and professionally. It started with me still being on cloud 9 from the December Polymer Cafe article.

There were three swaps this year.

Rock Purse

https://bluedamselflyjewelry.wordpress.com/2011/04/15/rock-purse-pics-finally/

Colorful Ocean Creatures

https://bluedamselflyjewelry.wordpress.com/2011/11/19/colorful-ocean-creatures-swap-pictures/

Mini Food

pics up in a week or so

The swaps are such a wonderful learning experience and I am so proud of all the participants and blessed to have found this group. I am not sure exactly why I am so blessed to be the proud Swap Ma Ma but I am loving every minute of it. Next swap just opened you should check it out.

This year I made the switch to Kato. It took forever for me to commit to the change and wouldn’t you know it as soon as I do it they change their formula and it is much softer now. The jury is still out on this one but I hope to continue with my commitment to use 100% Kato. I like the way it holds the details while making canes which is my first love. I also like the way it feels ONCE conditioned.

This year I focused on learning new techniques. I had a flower phase…..

https://bluedamselflyjewelry.wordpress.com/2011/07/26/emotional-roller-coaster/

and a wonderful opportunity to take a Carol Simmons class. The Carol Simmons class was defiantly my most favorite part of the year clay wise.

https://bluedamselflyjewelry.wordpress.com/2011/10/02/carol-simmons-class-starts-tomorrow/

I am so blessed to have had the year I did. I learned new techniques, made new friends, and am finding it easier to call myself an artist.

This new year I hope to continue to count my blessings and focus more on my art. Good health is the most important blessing because without that nothing is possible. I hope to lose a few pounds this year (don’t we all?). I also hope to be able to retire from my 9-5 and focus on my art   24-7. No date set yet but I am hoping for sometime this summer.

Finally in the new year I hope to have our summer home finished or very near completion. My studio will be located on the top floor with mountaintop views. This year will be about gathering the necessary supplies to open the new studio.

My first project is already in mind. It will be a housewarming gift to myself and it is a OOAK chess set for the upstairs sitting room and should take a loooonnnnnnggggg time to complete but once done will be a masterpiece I am sure.

With this new year  upon us I wish all of you nothing but the best with your art and life. Remember you are your worst enemy and road block. When you get in your own way with self-doubt it hinders you as an artist. Whatever you want to do………….

YOU CAN!

Colorful Ocean Creatures Swap Pictures

November 19, 2011

The swap has finished and the participants have recieved their boxes so now it is time to share with you. This swap was for a colorful ocean creature and as always this proud swap mama is so amazed at the entries. I hope you enjoy them.

Next Swap is for mini food and I can not wait to see what comes off everyone’s clay table. This time they will get their boxes very close to Christmas so it will be special well more special than it usually is.

Ouch

September 25, 2011

Did you ever have one of those moments where you knew you were going to fall but were powerless to stop it? This happened to me today and boy am I hurting now. I was in the bathroom and had sprayed some stain remover on a shirt and I guess some of it must have gotten on the floor because as I turned around to throw it in the dirty clothes my socked feet began slipping.

I could not stop it the only thing I could do was ride out the Splitz that was coming my way. Guess I must have let out a loud yelp on my way down as hubby came quickly to see what was up. I have 5 pounds of clay to condition for the upcoming class next weekend and my butt is in bed or hobbling around the house.

I needed to put the finishing touches on the items for the City O Clay swap but that is not going to happen today either. My only hope is that this does not hurt worse tomorrow because I have a lot of things now on my to do list.

Amazing how something as simple as throwing the dirty laundry down can change your weekend for the worse.

Helping Hands

September 18, 2011

Funny I never looked at hands the way I have this week ever in my life. That is because I am sculpting them. Not very good mind you but I am trying which is something I never planned on doing. Bleeping hands.

My decision was to have them holding something to disguise how bad they really look. Still I would find myself pretend holding stuff up so I could make sure the thumbs were the right way. This  lead to looks from family while walking by and looking at me with my hands up or laughing at myself while hands were pretend holding something.

When was the last time you laughed at yourself while creating art?

Try it you may like it.
